Ready, set, makan!

1. No Bake Onde Onde Cheese Cake

We love our kueh kuehs and more often than not, they are best enjoyed in its purest, traditional form that always has us reminiscing of our childhood days. But if you’re looking for a modern, delicious twist (and also much easier to prepare than traditional kuehs!), we’ve got the answer for you! Creamy, fragrant and light, this No Bake Onde Onde Cheesecake is a cinch to prepare and satisfies two dessert cravings in one! 😉

Recommended Bakeware: Jamie Oliver Non-Stick Mini Cake Tins

2. Black Pepper Crab

Ask any Singaporean and you will learn that the best way to prepare a crab is probably to cook it black pepper style or chili style! This easy recipe by Chef Michele Ow teaches you how to prepare this well-loved local dish in six simple steps. A definite must-have at your next dinner party!

Recommended Cooking Tool: Zyliss Seafood Cracker Tool

3. Cereal Butter Prawns

Cereal Butter Prawns – fresh, juicy prawns deep fried with a delicious coating of eggs, mixed with curry leaves and a touch of chili padi before tossing with delicious cereal! This hawker favourite is a must-have when ordering Zi Char dishes in Singapore. It’s easier to prepare than you think! Try this recipe and you’ll find out why it’s a perennial favourite amongst locals!

Recommended Kitchenware: Jamie Oliver Terracotta Medium Bowl, Epicurean Wood Fibre Spoon

4. Poached Chicken (For Chicken Rice)

Arguably one of Singapore’s ‘national dish’, the humble Chicken Rice can be found at almost every dining spot, from nondescript hawker centres to high-end restaurants. Consisting of succulent steamed white chicken cut into bite-size pieces and served on fragrant rice with some light soy sauce and garlic-chili dip on the side, this is a dish that spells comfort for many locals!

Recommended Cookware: Zebra Stainless Steel Sauce Pot w/ Lid, 24cm

5. Fried Oyster Omelette

Another hawker favourite in Singapore, Fried Oyster Omelette (Orh Jian) is cooked with simple ingredients such as eggs and starch, topped with ocean-fresh, juicy oysters. Definitely a sinfully yummy indulgence! If you’re anything like us, make an extra batch of batter! The crispy, gooey bits might be the best part of this dish when dipped with the tangy chili sauce!

Recommended Cookware: Lacor Robust Non-Stick Frying Pan, 24cm

6. Fried Five Spice Pork Rolls (Ngoh Hiang)

Fried Five Spice Pork Rolls (Ngoh Hiang) are great as an entrée or appetiser as well as a potluck dish for parties! They’re also a traditional dish for many Chinese households during the Lunar New Year celebrations. It’s meaty, moist yet crunchy and sweet, thanks to the various vegetables used – all rolled up in a crispy, delicious beancurd skin! One of the best part about making your own Ngoh Hiang (besides eating it)? Getting to decide what goes into the filling! 😉

Though its origins may not be local, Chicken Rendang, or Rendang Ayam, is a lip-smacking dry curry that has come to be a very popular dish amongst locals! Mother’s Day Special: An interview with one of our favourite Chef Moms, Chef Michele Ow

Dinner is better when we eat together. Chef Michele firmly believes that great food can bring people together, create friendships and family dinners build closer relationships.

This Mother’s Day, we sit down her and find out how her child influenced her into becoming a professional chef herself.

1. Tell us how you came to be a chef!
I’ve always cooked for my family from a tender age. However, it started professionally for me when my Son loves macarons so much that I decided to learn to bake them. To my surprise, they were very well received and remains my signature dish till now.

2. Being a mother yourself, do you cook often for your kids?
I plan my family’s meal every day and either cook or at least prepare the food in the morning with specific directions on the type of cooking style to ensure that the meal maintains its best nutrition and taste, and of course, an overall balanced meal.

3. Everyone loves food cooked by the Mom – what’s your favourite dish cooked by Mom?
It would be my mother’s signature pineapple tarts!

4. How do you plan to make this day special for Mom?
I will cook her favourite dish, Vongole.

5. Finally, would you be able to share a simple yet delicious recipe for our readers to try this Mother’s Day?
I will therefore share this 5 minute Vongole recipe with our readers:

Ingredients:

500g clams
6 cloves of garlic, roughly chopped
Handful of chopped parsley
1/2 cup white wine
Butter, olive oil
Chilli Flakes -optional

Directions:

1) Heat butter and olive oil and fry garlic (and Chilli flakes if using) for 1-2 minutes.

2) Add white wine to deglaze letting it bubble to get most of the alcohol evaporated

3) Add clams and cover lid for 3-5 minutes on high heat until all shells pop open

4) Stir in parsley for garnish

6 Essentials for Easy Lunch Packing (For School and Work!)

Packing your own nutritious lunch gives you a healthy, pocket-friendly and tasty meal, rather than reaching for the frozen section at the supermarket, the school canteen or greasy take-out on the way home.

If you’re new to food prepping for a week’s worth of packed lunches, we’re here to help! These lunch box gadgets make packing lunch fun AND ensure that they’re still in one piece when it’s meal time.

1. Silicone Storage Bowls & Boxes

The Lex Living line of products are perfect vehicles for transporting your packed lunch from the kitchen to your office/canteen. The Silicone Multi Purpose Cooker with Herb Pouch ensures uniform distribution of aromas. A simple push of the top plug of the cover provides airtight storage and refrigeration. The container is also collapsible and is 100% food grade material and BPA free. The Foldable Storage Bowl folds up with its cover, and the Collapsible Soup Box is designed to be airtight and leak-proof – perfect for storing cereal, soup and more!

2. Silicone Muffin Cases

Silicone muffin cases are great for dividing larger container compartments. You can use them to separate your crunchy veggies such as carrots and cucumbers, or even place your dips such as hummus or guacamole to separate them from your ‘softer’ foods in the container. Or, bake a batch of Banana Muffins with Granola (check out our trusty recipe here) and take them with you for breakfast, or a mid-day snack! These cases are flexible and almost unbreakable – saving you costs in the long run!

3. Multi-Purpose Vegetable Chopper

When your recipe calls for chopped carrots, peppers or for your carrot sticks to go with your dips, you’ll want the Mastrad Multi-Purpose Vegetable Chopper on hand. It easily cuts all vegetables into cubes, sticks and slices! The nonporous design of the multi chopper prevents the accumulation of bacteria and food particles between the head and the handle which ensures healthy feeding with less cleaning and also comes with a cleaning brush to ensure complete and easy cleaning.

4. Bamboo Fibre Lunch Boxes

This one’s for the kids! These colourful, durable and kids-safe dishware is easy to handle for small hands, helps contain mess and provides an environmental solution to plastic dishware. The lunch box comes with a separate container to separate the side dishes. Rest assured they are biodegradable, so you can feed your children safely, consciously and with fun! Available in-store, ToTT @ Dunearn.

5.Silicone Sorbet Moulds/ Yoghurt Tubes

These Ibili Silicone Sorbet Moulds can be used to create your very own pop treats at home – but you can also use them as portable yoghurt tubes! Buy a large container of yoghurt and portion them into these moulds instead of buying individually-packaged yoghurt cups. They’ll definitely help you to cut down on costs! Plus, it doesn’t hurt that it’s way more fun enjoying your yoghurt from these adorable tubes. 😉 They can also be used to hold nuts, cheese cubes and berries!

6. Egg Slicer

Slice your eggs, tomatoes and avocadoes easily with the handy dandy Westmark Egg Slicer – it’ll be sure to make your morning routine a little easier, and a little less messy! Slicing with this gadget is thanks to its ergonomically-shaped handle. It’s a great job that you can enlist the kids’ help with during busy mornings. You can teach them how to prepare healthy food and make good choices at the same time!

Now that you’re ready to start meal prepping – check out our arsenal of recipes that you can browse through whether you’re cooking for packed lunches or for a family meal at home!
